A house cat died in a fire that destroyed the porches of 190 Arlington St., a two-family residence in East Boston, late Monday night. None of the residents were injured. Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze, according to Fire Capt. Billy Johnson. The family in the first-story residence noticed smoke shortly before 11 p.m. as they were watching television, Johnson said. They discovered the porch ablaze and were able to safely evacuate.Johnson said the porches were "totaled," but the fire only reached the inside of the house through the attic. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within a few hours, he said. Despite the lack of flame damage inside, several walls and ceilings sustained smoke, heat and water damage, Walsh said. two firefighters were sent to the hospital during the course of the fire, according to Johnson - one for complaints of dizziness and minor chest pain and one for a cut on the hand. Both were treated and were not seriously hurt, he said.
