My
Professional Mission:
"Children are half of our population and all of our future."
-Author Unknown

As an
educational institution, I believe that schools should:
 |
provide a safe, positive, and nurturing environment that
invites learning |
 |
prepare future citizens in a democratic society and global
marketplace |
 |
teach the necessary adaptive skills to help children lead a
productive adult life, (i.e., problem-solving, critical
thinking, time management, conflict resolution,
communication skills) |
 |
instill tolerance of diversity, both within and across
cultures |
What Is A School
Psychologist?
"School
psychologists have specialized training in both psychology and
education. They use their training and skills to team
with educators, parents, and other mental health professionals
to ensure that every child learns in a safe, healthy, and
supportive environment. School psychologists understand
school systems, effective teaching, and successful learning.
Today's children face more challenges than ever before.
School psychologists can provide solutions for tomorrow's
problems through thoughtful and positive actions today."
(NASP)
As a
school psychologist, I firmly believe that I have an obligation
to be a(n):
 |
advocate for children |
- " I
believe that all children are capable and deserving of being
educated. Decisions about education should be child
focused and will be made through a helping relationship."
 |
positive role model and leader within the educational
community |
- " I
will be a change agent using consultation skills to promote
home/school/community collaboration. I will convey expert
knowledge in learning theories, child development, and
behavioral theories through professional development inservices
and consultation when possible."
 |
life long learner |
- " My
engagement in local, state, and national professional
organizations will promote professional development within
myself and the schools that I serve."
 |
resource for all stakeholders involved in the lives of
children |
- " I
will continually strive to integrate research and practice by
using expert data collection procedures in assessment,
intervention development, and evaluation procedures for
monitoring accountability when working with students.
"
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a
fire."
- William
Butler Yeats |
