Message from the Principal
Welcome to Buckeye Local High School - "A State Superintendent's School of Promise".  The 2007 - 2008 school year is off to a great start and we are looking forward to a very productive and rewarding year for everyone.  Please enjoy perusing our "Panther" website.
 
Vision Statement
To equip all students with the skills necessary to become independent and productive members of society in the twenty-first century.
 
Mission Statement
As a school committed to excellence, our mission is to educate student to become life long learners and to inspire all students to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.  This mission will be implemented by an exceptional staff partnership with students, parents, and the community.
 
Building Goals
  1. To continue to implement the Buckeye Local Continuous Improvement Plan.
  2. To maintain and encourage student participation in extracurricular activities.
  3. To continue to improve the curriculum to meet the competitive global market.
  4. To utilize the present intervention strategies to better prepare our students on standardized, proficiency, and OGT testing.
  5. To increase the use of technology in the classroom, to support instruction and student learning.
  6. To improve the educational process with successful innovative programs through staff development.
  7. To increase parent / community involvement through the means of teacher contact, newsletters, and mass media.
 
Academic Programs
Buckeye Local High School offers several curricular programs: Merit Scholars, College Preparatory, Business, Technical Preparatory, Vocational, Special Education.

There are 168 class offerings in addition to attendance at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School for interested Juniors and Seniors.

 
Extracurricular Programs
Buckeye Local High School has a number of activities available for student participation throughout their high school years.  Among them are Band, Jazz Band, Choir, S.A.D.D., Foreign Language Club, Art Club, Science Club, Audio-Visual Club, Library Club, Physics Club, Varsity Club, Drama Club, Home Ec. Club, F.C.A., Student Council, National Honor Society, and Project Self.
 
Athletics
There are eleven (12) athletic programs available to students.  They include: Golf, Football, Bowling, Volleyball, Cross Country, Boys' Basketball, Girls' Basketball, Wresting, Track, Softball, Baseball, and Cheerleading.  Our athletic programs have been successful due to the cooperation and dedication of students, coaches, and parents.  The administration and community have been, and will continue to be, solid supporters of all the athletic programs.
 
Facility
With the passage of a levy in 1987, Buckeye Local High School was constructed and opened to students in 1990.  The facility has an 800 seat theater/auditorium; two (2) gymnasiums and a practice room for wrestling; a fitness / wellness room; weight room; four (4) state of the art science labs; three (3) language labs; a complete foods lab; two (2) art labs; a complete library / media center with Info-Ohio, OCIS, and satellite hook-up for Japanese interactive classes.  Computers are available throughout the school with four (4) fully equipped labs containing eighty-five (85) computers and additional computer in all classrooms, a state-of-the-art track and new softball and baseball fields.  The baseball field was renamed Bill Mazeroski Field on May 17, 2003, to honor "Hall of Famer" Bill Mazeroski, who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for sixteen (16) years.
 
Counseling
There are two (2) full-time guidance counselors who conduct activities to address career opportunities and options.  The Guidance Office is equipped with two (2) computers connected to the Ohio Career Information System and works with students on Individual Career Planning.  College representatives visit the school throughout the fall and winter to meet with the students and various Career Days are scheduled.  Buckeye Local High School is an ACT testing center.
